Lemon

Lemon is a fruit of the citrus family. It usually has a sour-sweet taste and is known as a very healthy fruit. Rich in vitamin C, lemon helps strengthen the immune system and remove harmful substances from the body. Lemon is also used in drinks such as lemon water and lemon tea. It is grown in the Mediterranean Region of Turkey, especially in provinces such as Antalya and Mersin.

Throughout the world, lemon is an important export product, and Turkey has an important place in lemon exports. Turkey’s lemon production is generally close to 1 million tons, most of which is exported. In recent years, although Turkey’s lemon export has changed annually, it is generally between 200,000-300,000 tons.

What are the Lemon Varieties?

There are four different types or varieties that we export. These include Enterdonate, Lamas, Mayer, and Aydın is located.

Enterdonate

Enterdonat lemon, a hybrid lemon variety, is a popular citrus fruit known for its unique taste and distinct characteristics. The fruit has a juicy and acidic flavor; its peel is thick and rich in essential oils. The lemon also has a low seed count, making it a desirable variety for commercial and home use.

In Turkey, Enterdonat lemons are primarily grown in the Mediterranean region, with Antalya and Mersin being the major production centers. The region’s warm and sunny climate and fertile soil provide an ideal environment for the growth of high-quality Enterdonat lemons.

Turkey is a major exporter of Enterdonat lemons, with a significant portion of the fruit being shipped to the European Union, Russia, and the Middle East.

Lamas

Lamas lemon, a citrus fruit that belongs to the lemon family, is known for its tart and tangy flavor, which makes it a popular ingredient in various cuisines. The skin of the Lamas lemon is medium-thick, and its pulp contains few seeds, making it a desirable choice for those who prefer seedless lemons.

In Turkey, Lamas lemons are primarily cultivated in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions, where the climate and soil conditions are ideal for their growth. The primary production areas include Antalya, Adana, Mersin, Hatay, and İzmir. Turkey exports Lamas lemons to various countries, including Russia, Iraq, and Ukraine, with an annual export volume of around 50,000 tons.

Mayer

The Mayer lemon is sweet citrus and has a thinner rind than other types of lemons. The peel is yellow and less acidic. Therefore, it can be consumed fresh as well as used in meals, desserts, and beverages.

Mayer lemon, which is grown in Turkey, especially in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions, is widely produced in provinces such as Antalya, Mersin, Adana, and Aydın. The lemon tree prefers humid and warm climates and is grown in gardens or small-scale farms.

The skin thickness of the Mayer lemon is thinner than other lemon types and is about 2-3 mm thick. The ratio of fruit juice varies between 40%-50%.

The number of seeds in a Mayer lemon is variable, as in other types of lemons. However, it is generally known to contain fewer nuclei.

The taste of Mayer lemons is sweeter and less acidic than other lemons. It also has a more aromatic flavor. Therefore, it can be consumed fresh as well as used in meals, desserts, and beverages.

Aydın

Aydın lemon is a type of lemon that grows in the Aydın province of Turkey. It is one of the most important agricultural products of Aydın province and is grown in the region, especially in Bozdoğan, Karacasu, Sultanhisar, Nazilli, and Köşk districts.

Since the taste of Aydın lemon is quite acidic and sour, it is not usually consumed fresh, it is mostly used in dishes, beverages, pickles, and jams.

The skin thickness is medium for Aydın lemons and is similar to other lemon types. The fruit juice rate can vary between 30% – 40%.

The number of seeds in Aydın lemon varies depending on the size and type of lemon. However, since it is generally a medium-sized and thin-skinned lemon, it contains fewer seeds than other lemon types.

Aydın lemon is also beneficial for health due to its high vitamin C content. In addition, the peel of the lemon can be used and it has sweetening and aromatic properties due to the essential oils it contains.
